The Department of Science and Technology CALABARZON celebrated its Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) with the theme, “Science for the People: S&T in Harmony with Biodiversity,” on August 2-4, 2017 at Los Baños, Laguna. This year’s Regional STW will feature back to back activities with the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) Syensaya.
Syensaya’s Wonderama Exhibit, an interactive urban, marine, agriculture and environment related S&T exhibits served as one of the major activity located at the Copeland Gymnasium, University of the Philippines, Los Baños.
Simultaneously with the Wonderama Exhibit were the various fora including the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Forum: Building a Strong Community with Sustainable Livelihood Through CEST. The forum targeted the farmers in CALABARZON Region to broaden their potential market through the provision of farming and production technologies and strategies.
Additionally, LBSCFI conducted the Technology Forum on Water Security: Environmental Forum on Water Security of Los Baños. Members of the local government, homeowners, and water purifying station owners in Los Baños attended the said program. TechnoForum aimed to provide awareness to the status of Mt. Makiling Watershed; policies and ordinance in the use of water resources; and issues related to water security, quality, demand and supply.
On the last day, LBSCFI conducted the annual R&D Awards which acknowledged outstanding research and development endeavors by the experts in the community.
Correspondingly with the R&D Awards was the new LBSCFI's Youth Science Awards (in its pilot conduct next year, 2018, it will be exclusively opened to the Los Baños schools). Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, LBSCFI President and DOST CALABARZON Regional Director, intentions was to expose the student to S&T researches and promote innovativeness among the CALABARZON youth.

The Department of Science and Technology CALABARZON is pleased to announce the conduct of the 2017 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) on September 13-15, 2015 (venue to be announced) with the theme, “Science for the People: Fostering Inventions for an Innovative Nation’. This Regional Contest will serve as the qualifying round for the 2018 National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE).
We would like to invite students, faculty researchers and inventors to join in this competition which has six categories: (1) Outstanding Invention (Tuklas Award), (2) Outstanding Utility Model, (3) Outstanding Industrial Design, (4) Outstanding Creative Research (Likha Award), (5) Outstanding Student Creative Research (Sibol Award) for High School students, and (6) Outstanding Student Creative Research (Sibol Award) for College students.
The 2017 Regional Invention Contest Rules, Criteria, and Entry Forms are available at the nearest DOST Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) offices or you may secure copies at the DOST CALABARZON Regional Office at Jamboree Rd. Schools/ state universities and colleges with many campuses and colleges may send a maximum of three (3) entries per category. The forms may be submitted duly accomplished and notarized to DOST PROVINCIAL S&T CENTER not later than July 22, 2017 or to DOST IV-A OFFICE not later than July 28, 2015. The PRELIMINARY SCREENING is scheduled on the 1st WEEK of August at DOST IV-A Office.
