The Provincial S&T Center of Rizal assisted Elbert C. Pigtain of Tropical Fruit Winery Corporation acquire a loan of PhP0.98M from the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), a banner project of the science and technology department to expand fruit production and increase the number of wine producers. The company located in San Mateo, Rizal produces wine from tropical fruits such as duhat (Java plum), bignay (currant fruit), guyabano (soursop), and mango.

The loan enabled the company to ensure continual supply of the fruits through expanded orchards, and conduct of training series on wine production for farmer-cooperators of the Antipolo City Livelihood project and employees of the Department of Agriculture. The company produces the internationally acclaimed wine brands Mijiah and Piel. It has penetrated local supermarkets such as Sta. Lucia, Landmark, Rustan's and Anson's. It has since developed domestic consumers' taste for tropical fruit wines.
