PSTC Laguna assists AMTEC – UPLB in the conduct of Machinery Testing and evaluation for Pineapple Fiber Decorticator

The Agricultural Machinery Testing Center (AMTEC) conducted machine testing and evaluation of the Pineapple Decorticator, designed and developed by Engr. Dick Ola of Rankine Enterprises.
The machine testing took place last Feb. 01, 2022, at Engr. Ola’s machine shop at St.Mary’s Homes, Molino 4, Bacoor, Cavite. The testing was conducted in response to the recommendation of DOST – PTRI (Philippine Textile Research Institute) to have a certified government testing center evaluate the Fiber Decorticator of Rankine Enterprises prior to procurement of the machine by San Pablo City Pineapple Farmers Entrepreneur Assn. (2021 Beneficiary of Grants-In-Aid Program of DOST CALABARZON). This is to ensure that the quality of fibers to be produced shall conform to the standards of Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI).
Aetas in San Luis, Batangas undergo basic course on sewing

The science and technology interventions for the indigenous community of Aetas in Brgy. Banoyo, San Luis, Batangas continues!
Women members of the Aeta community were trained on basic course on sewing as a kick-off activity for their Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-funded solar-powered sewing services enterprise, January 31 - February 1, 2021.
The course covered the topics on sewing technology, parts of the sewing machine, steps on setting-up the machine, mensuration and calculation, taking body measurements, drafting and cutting of patterns, and the sewing process. Measuring, cutting, and marking tools were individually discussed and explained to familiarize the women members on its uses. A lecture was conducted prior to demonstration and hands-on activities. Outputs from the sewing activities were rags, draft patterns, and blouses.

Upland coconut farmers in Magallanes, Cavite capacitated on food safety

Coconut farmers in Brgy. Ramirez, Magallanes, Cavite underwent a training on food safety last 21 January 2022.
Attendees are officers and members of the Ramirez Upland Farmers Association (RUFAI), one of the beneficiaries of the Agroforestry Support Program for Enhancing Resiliency of Community-Based Forest Management Areas (ASPIRE-CBFM) Program. The training complements the earlier deployment of coconut production technologies by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to the organization in support of their livelihood.
Ms. Anna Marie S. Daigan and Ms. Joan Mae Acacio, members of the DOST Cavite Food Safety Team facilitated the training, discussing the fundamentals of food safety. During the 1-day interactive activity, the facilitators covered maintenance and sanitation of food production equipment and facility, and protection of product information, among others.

Towards inclusive socio-economic recovery after the 2020 Taal volcano eruption, members of the LGBTIQA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexuality, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual/aromantic (ace and aro), and all other sexual orientations, gender identities and physiological sex characteristics) community called “Sinag ng Kulay” in the Municipality of Talisay, Batangas were trained on fish processing as a prelude to the establishment of their community enterprise under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-CALABARZON’s Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) program, Jan. 26.
