On April 13, 2021, the Department of Science and Technology – CALABARZON (DOST-CALABARZON) and the Cooperative Development Authority – Region 4A (CDA-R4A), as lead organizers, together with the other agency-members of the CALABARZON Sub-Task Group on Agribusiness (STGA), held the Regional Launching of the “Agri-Negosyo Para sa OFWs” in CALABARZON via Zoom and Facebook Live. Attended by almost 300 participants from different parts of the world, the event introduced agriculture or agribusiness-related programs and services for OFWs and their families in the region.
Agri-Negosyo Para sa OFWs and other DTI programs
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Usec. Rafaelita M. Aldaba, representing the DTI as Co-Chair of the National STGA, discussed DTI innovations and opportunities for OFWs, including the Agri-Negosyo program. The creation of the STGA, with the Department of Agriculture and the DTI as co-chairs, and the CDA, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), DOST, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as member agencies, is one of the many initiatives of the government to address unemployment, especially among OFWs since the onset of the pandemic.

Under the program entitled, “DOST’s Strategy to Accelerate & Revitalize Technology Transfer (StARTT) in CALABARZON Region”, DOST-CALABARZON collaborates with DOST-PCIEERD and the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) by conducting a one day workshop on Investment Pitching, and a Mock Pitching session last 17 March and 24 March, respectively. The said initiatives aim to scale up efforts in technology transfer and commercialization for potential startup founders in CALABARZON.

Sweet but healthy! The ice cream desert that we love has been made healthy and guilt-free particularly for overweight and diabetic.
The fourth episode of Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Batangas’ TechSilog Online Seminar Series Season 3 featured the Low-Fat Low-Sugar Ice Cream developed by Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s (DOST-FNRI) aired via Zoom and Facebook Live, March 9.

MUFAI members undergo technology training, Coconut vinegar, ginger brew production sets off

NASI, ROSARIO, Batangas --- Members of the Mountview Upland Farmers Association, Inc. (MUFAI) are all set to operate their Science and Technology (S&T)-based enterprise after completing the two-day technology training on coconut vinegar and ginger brew production, March 22-23.
From the capacity building activity designed to help them develop a business which fits their available resources which took place on January 27-28, MUFAI advanced anew as they set off coconut vinegar and ginger brew production through the help of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) CALABARZON Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Batangas and the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), an attached agency of DOST. Using the ITDI technology, DOST CALABARZON PSTC Batangas staff trained more than 20 members of the association from raw materials preparation to the detailed production process of coconut vinegar and ginger brew.

Access to hundreds of thousands S&T information will no longer be hard to students of Golden Gate Colleges Batangas City with the installation of STARBOOKS, 51st system deployed in Batangas province.
STARBOOKS is the country’s first digital library with hundreds of thousands digitized science and technology resources in various formats (text and video/audio) placed in specially designed “pods” set in a user-friendly interface. It stands for Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS upgraded and rebranded as SuperSTARBOOKS) developed by the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII), an agency of the Department of Science and Technology. As a standalone information kiosk, information access through STARBOOKS is possible even without internet connection. In fact, it is considered as a one stop S&T information source because of it serves a compendium of S&T information gathered from all over the world.
