The Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) is announcing that the ASTI Digital Library program is now ready for use by PREGINET partner institutions. The program utilizes the Greenstone Digital Library Software produced by the New Zealand Digital Library Project at the University of Waikato. It is developed and distributed in cooperation with UNESCO and the Human Info NGO. Greenstone is a set of software for building and distributing digital library collections. It is capable of digitizing documents thus making file transfer and storage of print, audio and video materials very easy.

ASTI and the network applications team of PREGINET has setup the Greenstone Digital Library Software, version 2.30, in a database server running Redhat 9.0. In addition, they have customized the software to fit application needs of PREGINET partner institutions. ASTI assures new users of the ease of use of Greenstone because it is Web-based and open source. It allows users full-text search and retrieval, and supports HTML, PDF, TXT, DOC and image file formats. Lastly, users will find the application's multilingual support as very useful. ?(AMGuevarra\EPagador\ DOST CALABARZON S&T Media Service)
