The Nutrition Research and Information Network (NUTRINET), in coordination with the Philippine Society of Nutritionists-Dieticians (PSND), recently held the 2010 NUTRINET Seminar and Nutrifair with the theme "Achieving Food Security Amidst Climate Change through Nutrition and Agricultural Information" at the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute in Diliman, Quezon City.

Guilberto A. Veluz, officer-in-charge of the Office of the Regional Director of DOST CALABARZON, in coordination with the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) and Guill-Bern Corporation, recently led conduct of the Seminar-Workshop on Basic Food Hygiene and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) held at Splash Mountain Resort, Los Banos, Laguna.

An electronic library especially created for Pinoy students and researchers is now open. Called the Philippine eLib, the project is a collaborative effort of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), University of the Philippines (UP), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Funded by the Philippine government through the e-Government Fund, the project hopes to provide for the information needs of all sectors of Pinoy society in a convenient, affordable, and efficient manner. DOST-ASTI recently developed SMS software called the GSM Data Terminal which allows user companies to send and receive short messages to clients without need for a mobile phone. The GSM Data Terminal consists of a GSM module with antenna mounted on a PCI form factor card and serial cable. It is designed to turn an ordinary PC into an SMS server. The product can be customized according to user needs. Its applications can communicate with any SMS-capable device and automate all handling of incoming/ outgoing messages and other data.

The Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) formed a Knowledge Management Division (KMD) as part of its Rationalization Plan approved by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). Creation of the division supports the agency's ISO 9001:2000 certification. In addition, it works to strengthen the institute's goal to become a continually learning organization where improvement of its people is of vital importance.
