More than 500 street food vendors in Tanauan City in Batangas, and Calamba City and Los Banos in Laguna will soon benefit from a project tasked to provide training on safe and hygienic food handling, preparation, and distribution. The Food Safety Team of DOST IV-A spearheaded by Jane Agnes U. Olivares of the Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory formed a Technical Working Group with members from LGU Batangas and Laguna. The group initially plans to develop IEC materials, conduct micro tests of sample street foods, develop standards for street foods, and prepare an inventory of raw materials suppliers. They are also currently finalizing details of a memorandum of understanding.
