DOST CALABARZON, with the assistance from the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Human Ecology Department, organized teams to assess the five key areas of the DOST’s Enhanced Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (ECEST) Program. The Five (5) municipalities had designated researchers (students and teacher from UPLB) who immersed themselves with the locals of the islands. They had eight weeks to gather data and develop strategies tailor-fit with the issues concerning the local government units of Polillo Group of Islands (PoGI). Through the Community Needs Assessments (CNA), DOST-CALABARZON and UPLB identified the strengths and resources available in the communities. This provides framework for developing services and solutions addressing the community issues. The Enhanced CEST Program aims to assist PoGI in five (5) key areas: water and sanitation; health and nutrition; education; livelihood; and disaster reduction and climate change adaptation.
