Last May 18-20, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology - Industrial Technology and Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) and the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Laguna, 14 local government units from Laguna were able to attend a two-day webinar on the conduct of Water Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS). Through the expertise of DOST-ITDI, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (MENROs) from Siniloan, Paete, Magdalena, Luisiana, Pakil, Majayjay, Kalayaan, Mabitac, Calauan, Los Baños, San Pablo, Sta Cruz, Rizal and San Pedro were equipped with skills on how to conduct their WACS plans.

Learning outcomes from this webinar training will be used by the local government units to comply to RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act which requires all LGUs to revisit their 10-year Solid Waste Management to ensure that their plans are at par with the current situation in their locality under their jurisdiction. The participants learned how to determine appropriate sample sizes, identify sources of wastes from households to industrial establishments and prepare a worksheet to be utilized for the preparation of the WACS Plan.

The training was also graced by the presence of Engr. Francisco Barquilla III, DOST-CALABARZON’s OIC-Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, who welcomed the participants to the webinar.
