Farmers and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Batangas City were trained on food safety in a training on current Good Manufacturing Practices conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas in partnership with the Office of Batangas City Agriculture held at the Office of the City Veterinary and Agricultural Services Compound, Bolbok, Batangas City, May 23.

Participating farmers and MSMEs are assisted by the City Agriculture Office and are currently producing crops and processed goods derived from crops. Hence, to ensure their compliance with food safety requirements, DOST-Batangas provided them with training.

In order to address the non-potable water issue of Brgy. Sta. Ines, Tanay, Rizal, various agencies cooperated to deploy the Upgraded Emergency Disinfection System (UPEDS) Technology to the said barangay last May 22, 2023.

Regional Director Emelita P. Bagsit and Rizal Provincial Director Fernando E. Ablaza of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-CALABARZON, together with Deputy Director Zorayda V. Ang and Engr. Reynaldo L. Esguerra of DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), President Dr. Nancy T. Pascual and Dr. Marites M. Rio of University of Rizal System (URS), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the local government unit (LGU) of Tanay, led by Hon. Rafael A. Tanjuatco, Hon. Rex Manuel C. Tanjuatco, and Hon. Adrenico F. Zubiaga.

Agriculture-based associations in Batangas province were capacitated on mango and calamansi processing in a technology training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas, in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) - Batangas, held at OPA Training Hall, Diversion Road, Batangas City, May 11.

Agriculture-based associations such as Women’s Rural Improvement Club (RIC), Batangas Mango Growers Association, and 4H Club – Batangas participated in the technology training which aimed to provide them value addition technologies of mango and calamansi.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Rizal, together with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Antipolo City held a Fire Protection and Awareness Campaign last May 3 in the University of Rizal System (URS)-Antipolo Campus. With the theme “Safety First: Be Prepared, Be Safe”, BFP Antipolo City professionals shared their expertise and knowledge on issues and queries regarding fire emergency safety and delivering first aid treatment during a crisis.

Food Manufacturers in Lipa City received a seminar on packaging technology, labeling requirements, and marketing innovations from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Lipa City (LGU-Lipa City) through the City Cooperatives Office held at Lipa City Training Center, May 05.

The seminar aimed to equip the participants with knowledge on packaging technology and innovations, mandatory labeling information for prepackaged food products imposed in the Philippines and abroad, and the science behind innovations in marketing. It was divided into three parts: 1) packaging technology, 2) labeling requirements, and 3) marketing innovations.

The discussion on packaging technology covered the definition and functions of food packaging, factors in selecting product packaging, food packaging materials, packaging material tests, and food packaging techniques. Product packaging innovations were also explained to the participants.
